EarthyBirth Ceremony
A Closing of the Bones Ceremony with Taya Shopen

About the ceremony
What is Closing of the Bones ceremony?
This practice draws on the wisdom of traditional cultures and is intended to restore a sense of WHOLENESS.
The ceremony works with every layer of our being:
the mind, the soul, and the body.
Closing of the Bones is a symbolic transition.
A way of closing what has been and meeting yourself in a new place, in a new world.
A place where you can finally exhale.

What is EarthyBirth ceremony?
I have been working with Family Constellations and the Field for more than 10 years, and I bring this Field-based approach into my work. It allows us to see more clearly what lies behind recurring patterns in your life, find a way through conflicts that have remained unresolved, and uncover what may be keeping you in circumstances that no longer serve you.
Many people describe this work with me as a profound turning point.
Afterward, life really does begin to change: You return to your own strength. Things that once required enormous effort may begin to move with greater ease. Change unfolds gently, in a way you have the capacity to hold.
Every ceremony is unique.
There is a clear structure, while the process itself remains intuitive and responsive to you.
When you might need this ceremony
EarthyBirth Ceremony can be deeply supportive during times of transition:
• the birth of a child
• moving
• changing your professional path or losing a job
• divorce
• the end of a relationship
• grieving a loss
Any experience in which we are no longer who we were,
but have not yet met ourselves in what comes next.
What you may experience during the process

Bodywork
Relaxation with a traditional Mexican rebozo
Warm-oil bodywork
Abdominal work
Working with the navel — returning yourself “to the center of your own system”

Swaddling
Wrapping and gently tightening the body with rebozo shawls
“Returning to the womb”

What you may take with you
Wholeness.
Strength.
Clarity.
A return to your body and your center.
Inner stillness and peace.
A sense of being grounded in yourself.
Inspiration.
A sense of completion and readiness for the next stage of your journey.

Is this ceremony for men too?
Men need this kind of Closing just as much as women do.
It is a safe space to step out of the roles of “I have to,” “I must,” and “I have to handle this.”
A space where you can simply be yourself.
Where you can finally exhale.
Where the ceremony takes place
On my land
You arrive the evening before, giving yourself time to settle in and feel comfortable and safe.
That first evening, we:
visit the hot springs or banya
have dinner together
gently begin entering your story and the transition you are moving through
The following day, until late into the night, is devoted entirely to the ceremony.
Afterward, you sleep. In the morning, we have breakfast, check in together, and say goodbye around noon.

In your home (Oregon/California)
I arrive early in the morning, and we hold the process in your home.
It is important that:
you are not disturbed throughout the day
if you have a young child, someone you trust is there to care for them
We can pause for feeding as needed.
At a hotel or AirBnB
You arrange or book the space yourself
The space needs to have a bathtub (or an access to a banya)
Ideally, the windows have blackout curtains

Important
Every ceremony is a living process. Its length, depth, and practices are always shaped around you.
This is a space of gentleness, warmth, and presence.
A space for your transition.

What other participants are saying
When I arrived on this woman’s land, I immediately had the feeling that I was exactly where I was meant to be — and that she was someone so familiar, so close, somehow one of my own. And then the magic began. It was honest, feminine, free, wild — exactly the kind of magic my soul needed. It turned out that this was only the preparation. The second day was pure enchantment: a deep, gradual descent into myself. The banya, constellations, herbs, yoni steaming, swimming in a mountain river, a cacao ceremony — these were only a small part of it. I’ll admit, Taya had her work cut out for her with me. I came with many questions and many layers, and my restless mind simply does not switch off. But she found the key. Everything she did with me, everything she created, felt so alive, rich, deep, and real. I think that for the first time in many years, I saw and felt what it means to truly live — to enjoy being alive, to allow myself, to know that life can be lived this way. I could see life beyond the ancestral patterns of the beautiful women in my family. And I saw that life is here, in my ordinary everyday life, too — and that what matters is to live it now. The Closing Ceremony happened. My mind finally surrendered, and I fell asleep during the process, while the magic continued. I woke up. I am home. I am learning how to live with this new version of myself, to experience life differently, and to truly live it every day. Taya, thank you. You know that you are extraordinary — real and fully alive. Thank you for awakening us and helping us see life.

The entire process was incredibly gentle and nurturing. For the first time in my life, I had a whole day when I was cared for, held with love, and everything was devoted entirely to me. All the attention was on me. During the process, I felt as though I were taking part in a shamanic ritual — that I was in the hands of a woman with an enormous heart, capable of holding a space that somehow carried all the women standing behind me, all the women in my lineage. It was powerful, yet deeply gentle and protective. What fascinated me most was how everything began to unfold after the Closing Ceremony. Taya activated something in me — certain codes — and they slowly began weaving themselves into my life. I started opening to things I had previously been closed to. Pieces began falling into place. It is almost imperceptible, and yet unmistakable. And what matters most is how gentle this unfolding has been on my psyche. Gradually, step by step. I am weaving myself into being, creating my own pattern from the threads this woman helped me see.

Taya helps rewire the patterns that harm you, tend to old wounds, work through trauma, and reach depths of your soul you may not even have known were there. And the most important outcome of this work is healing — becoming whole again. As for what the experience actually looked like: I arrived on Monday afternoon, and we went to the hot springs, where we stayed until the end of the day. That time was about building closeness and trust — both essential for letting your defenses down, allowing yourself to be vulnerable, opening up, and surrendering to the process. On Tuesday morning, we began. We gathered medicinal herbs from the garden, and Taya shared so much fascinating knowledge about them — as she does with almost everything she talks and writes about. The herbs were made into a bundle that was used both to prepare an herbal infusion and for bodywork in the banya. Then came Family Constellations, which Taya uses extensively in her work, more conversations, different forms of massage, and finally the Closing Ceremony itself. Afterward, I slept like a baby. We finished around one in the morning. I have to admit, I regretted having to fly home on Wednesday. I would recommend giving yourself two full days for this experience rather than just one, as I did.

About me
Hi, I’m Taya Shopen.
I’m a Family Constellations facilitator, EarthyBirth Ceremony practitioner, and practitioner of Emotional Imagery Therapy. I’m also the founder of the EarthyBirth School, where I teach my own approach to Closing of the Bones work, and the founder of Dacha Amor retreat center.
I specialize in transitions.
I can walk alongside you through the places that feel difficult and dark. When you want to live a life that truly feels like yours, but you’re not yet sure what that life looks like. When you feel called to create your own work, earn more, and become more visible, but don’t yet know how to get there. When you sense a great power within you, buried so deep that even beginning to look toward it feels frightening.
With me, it is safe to learn from yourself.
From your soul. From your light and your shadow. From those who came before you. And, above all, from Spirit.
What I love most is witnessing that moment when a person truly meets themselves and LOVES that meeting with their whole being.
